The New Jersey Citizen Action Education Fund (NJCAEF) is a non-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1983 to empower low- and moderate-income people through research, education and training on public policy issues important to working families and seniors, direct counseling and services. Our goals are to promote economic and social justice, to empower and organize the unorganized, to build a strong progressive coalition working on issues of common concern, strengthening our base both collectively as a coalition and as individual organizations.
NJCAEF has a long history of successfully building a broad and diverse constituency and engaging tens of thousands of New Jerseyans in non-partisan, issue-based grassroots campaigns. We work closely with NJ Citizen Action (NJCA), our 501(c)(4) sister organization. NJCA is the state’s largest citizen watchdog coalition, with 60,000 family members across the state and 100 affiliate groups including a range of senior, labor, religious, civil rights, civic and neighborhood groups.
In addition to our issue campaigns, NJCAEF also provides free comprehensive outreach and education programs, including HUD-certified housing & foreclosure counseling, tax preparation, in-person enrollment assistance to connect uninsured families to affordable healthcare coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and financial education to increase economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income NJ communities.
