The person in this position would staff and lead the New Jersey Time to Care Coalition, a diverse group of over 100 advocacy, union, women, religious, community and social justice organizations working to improve workplace programs and policies that ensure that working families have paid time to care. NJCA is hiring a full-time Grassroots Resistance Organizer to expand our grassroots power and mobilize that power to advance proactive state-level policies. The Grassroots Resistance Organizer will also coordinate our efforts to stop attempts by Congress and the Trump Administration to rollback programs and protections, including Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, consumer financial protections, policies that affect immigrants, and workplace policies that support women and families. Examples of our proactive issue campaigns include adoption of a paid sick days policy, expanded paid family leave, tax and budget fairness and health care reform. New Jersey Citizen Action is accepting resumes for the full-time position of Grant Writer to help meet organizational fundraising goals. Working under the direction of the Development Director, the Grant Writer will be responsible for funder prospecting, preparing Letters of Inquiry, writing grant applications and fundraising appeals, and helping to manage and prepare reports to current funders. As a part of NJCA’s Development Department, the Grant Writer will also work with the Executive Director, Director of Development, Senior Management, and other staff as appropriate to meet the organization’s individual donor fundraising goals. New Jersey Citizen Action, a statewide grassroots nonprofit organization that fights for social, racial and economic justice, is hiring a full-time Bilingual Community Educator. Working under the direction of the Development Director, the Community Educator will reach out to targeted constituencies to educate consumers on fair housing and housing discrimination and other consumer protection and financial education issues.  The Community Educator will focus on education and outreach to low- and moderate-income communities across the state, providing consumers with information and resources on various consumer financial protection issues. New Jersey Citizen Action is a statewide grassroots organization that fights for social, racial and economic justice.  Over the past 11 years, NJCA has provided free, quality tax return preparation for low and moderate individuals and families.

New Jersey Citizen Action is now accepting resumes for temporary Tax Preparers to work in our Newark, Bloomfield and Highland Park offices. Flexible hours are available including days, evenings and Saturdays. Training classes are available.


  • Attend new and/or refresher tax law and software training needed for certification
  • Successfully pass all tests required of tax law knowledge for tax preparation
  • Provide basic and advanced preparation for eligible taxpayers
  • Interview the client to determine that all income, deductions and allowable credits are reported
  • Prepare only those returns for which training and certification were provided
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the client’s information
  • Provide the client with a copy of the return and review its contents with the client
  • Have the client sign the applicable authorization documents for electronic filing
  • Complete all administrative activities related to the completion of the client’s return


  • Basic computer skills for inputting tax return data into the software
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to interview clients about personal and financial matters
  • Ability to work with the public in a helpful and supportive manner
  • Friendly, dependable, reliable and flexible
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
  • Must be able to work January to April
