The New Jersey Citizen Action Education Fund convenes the state’s leading health care consumer coalition, NJ for Health Care. Together with our coalition partners, NJCAEF championed the fight for health reform in New Jersey that led to passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010. In 2012, our education and policy work ensured New Jersey became an early adopter of the Medicaid expansion, a key component of the ACA. Since its passage in 2010, we’ve coordinated an aggressive statewide public education and enrollment campaign. To date, more than 700,000 New Jerseyans have enrolled in coverage under the ACA, cutting the rate of uninsured in New Jersey by more than 40%
However, the fight for health care justice is far from over. Many New Jerseyans still struggle to afford or access the high quality services they need. Health disparities among people of color, non-English speakers, the LGBTQ community, and the poor persist. As we continue to close the coverage gap through implementation of the ACA, we need to work toward transforming our health care system so that it delivers more value, better health outcomes through care that is far more patient-focused, compassionate, and culturally sensitive to needs of New Jersey’s diverse communities.
NJCAEF and NJ for Health Care’s current campaigns seek to improve consumers’ access to high qualtiy and more affordable health care and to identify additional reforms that can transform our health care system to better serve the needs of all New Jerseyans in the future.
